Terms like “safety” and “emergency” tend to make for great work-arounds for the rights otherwise guaranteed by the Constitution.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
For the longest time, there was a misguided “collective” interpretation of that amendment that proposed any State in the Union could legislate away an individual’s right to possess a firearm.
This is an interpretation that “gun grabbing” busybodies in the Government have relied on to erode your natural right to defend yourself with a firearm.
That interpretation was severely misguided, mainly because it was wrong. The Founders actually enshrined an individual’s natural rights in the Constitution (with ideas taken from the Federalist papers).
Thankfully, the correct interpretation of the Second Amendment (individual rights) was reinforced by the case of District of Columbia v. Heller in 2008.
It was further clarified in 2010 by McDonald v. City of Chicago. That ruling established that the Second Amendment’s provisions are also protected at the state level by the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause.
Sounds pretty bulletproof, doesn’t it? (Pun intended).
But astoundingly, the Biden Administration (carrying water for the Uniparty) is now trying to erase your right to carry a firearm with these three “magic” words…
“Public Health Emergency”
The natural right to defend yourself shouldn’t ever be classified as a “health emergency” by the Government.
(Except that you might stay alive if a violent offender is thwarted by self-defense.)
With that in mind, read the following statement issued by the current U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy very carefully (I’ve bolded the most important part):
U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy has issued a landmark Surgeon General’s Advisory on Firearm Violence, declaring firearm violence in America to be a public health crisis. This advisory is the first publication from the Office of the Surgeon General dedicated to this issue, and it outlines the devastating and far-reaching consequences that firearm violence poses to the health and well-being of the country.
It goes without saying that you aren’t responsible for everyone else’s actions.
But did you notice how Dr. Murthy cleverly tied the “health and well-being of the country” to your individual right to carry a firearm by declaring it a public health emergency?
Pretty sneaky, huh?
“All for one, and one for all!” (Which is how authoritarians think).
The thing is, it only took a little bit of digging to uncover why your individual right to defend yourself with a firearm has nothing to do with the “public health emergency.”
Here’s the part of the advisory that makes everything clear:
Across all firearm‑related deaths in 2022, more than half (56.1%) were from suicide, 40.8% were from homicide.
Added together, the Surgeon General’s advisory claims that 96.9% of firearm-related deaths will be solved by taking firearms away.
Look, suicide is a major problem in the United States. So is the rising trend of homicides, a category of violent crime where the U.S. is a “leader” among nations.
If you think about it, though, three things become clear:
- People who commit suicide will probably find another way to do it, unless they get help.
- Criminals don’t care about gun laws, they’ll still kill people.
- You have the natural right to defend yourself against violent attackers.
Even more importantly, you aren’t responsible for other adults’ actions if you’re a law-abiding citizen (who doesn’t want to harm others or yourself).
Which brings us to sunny Florida…
Is Florida the Last of the “True” United States?
Thankfully, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis could see the potential outcome of this gun-grabbing advisory, and enacted legislation in response:
During COVID, unelected bureaucrats used “public health” as a pretext to deprive citizens of their rights– and I signed legislation to protect Floridians from government overreach.
Now, Biden’s Surgeon General is attempting to violate the Second Amendment through the “public health” bureaucracy.
We will not comply. Florida will always reject the Biden Administration’s unconstitutional power-grabs.
While I will admit, “will not comply” is a powerful statement for a Governor to make in this case, it’s the need for legislation that’s the problem.
And that brings me to my last point…
The Constitutional Erosion at Play Here
The Uniparty is winning this battle for your natural rights, and here’s why…
If the United States were operating as the Founders intended, there wouldn’t be any question about your natural right to carry arms for self-defense.
That’s because The Constitution and Bill of Rights would be enough to protect your basic right in any court of law, in every state.
But they aren’t, even in Florida, where the Governor had to enact legislation to protect the rights that everyone in the United States should already have.
On firearms, DeSantis signed permitless carry legislation into law last year, further cementing a majority of U.S. states allowing concealed carry of a firearm without a government “permission slip.”
Was it a political stunt? Maybe.
But without the law on the books (protected by the 10th Amendment), who knows how far the Surgeon General’s “advisory” could have been taken in Florida.
Every U.S. citizen in every other state should take notice.
Here’s the good news: You don’t have to suffer at the hands of government officials who could be taking advantage of a so-called “public health emergency” to usurp your natural rights as a human being…
