The US was once the most sought-after places, with a reputation preceding her as having the best quality of life, and that was once true… but not anymore.
In a previous message, I explained how the cost-of-living inside the United States was increasing at an astonishing pace.
Now we’re going to talk about the quality of life in the U.S., and how it stacks up against the rest of the developed world.
Of course, life in the U.S. is pretty good, relatively speaking. That’s to be expected when you live in a first world country.
But you might be surprised to learn that the U.S. ranks a distant 19th, just one spot above England, when compared on an international quality of life index. That index compares countries based on several factors including:
“Cost of living and purchasing power, affordability of housing, pollution including air, water, etc., crime rates, health system quality, and traffic (commute times).” (Source)
But the U.S. ranks poorly in all of those areas. To make matters worse, the average life expectancy has actually declined each of the last three years (it’s currently 76 years of age).
Crime is rising in almost every major city across the country. Pollution is also rising fast, with the worst state being California.
Traffic is getting worse by the year (with the exception of COVID pandemic years), and almost three times worse than other countries like New Zealand, Israel, and Spain.
All of this means the United States could already be in a major state of decline.
With all of that in mind, here are three of the eighteen countries that rank higher for quality of life than the U.S.:
- Slovenia
- Estonia
- Luxembourg
Now maybe, for one reason or another, these countries don’t appeal to you. That’s fine because many other countries rank higher than the U.S. Maybe tax savings are an important priority for you? If that’s the case, then you might look at Armenia or even South Africa.
Or maybe you want to live a private life away from the “Five Eyes” surveillance grid, then Bermuda, Jamaica, or even Albania could be a good fit.
Or if you want a lower cost of living, then Mexico could be the place to live out your “American Dream,” if you can get an ID to live there.
